Hercules Park redevelopment project (July 2022 update)

Rendering of Hercules Park (July 2022)

The Zephyrhills City Council in July 2022 approved an award of contract to Wharton Smith, Inc., for construction management of the Hercules Park redevelopment project.

This firm brings a strong depth of experience with recreational and park projects throughout the state of Florida.

Wharton-Smith will also be working closely with Kimley-Horn & Associates on the design of Hercules Park.

The Hercules Park property, adjacent to Zephyrhills High and Woodland Elementary schools, will play an important role in serving as a trail head for the trail project on State Road 54; with a playground, open playfield, pavilion, restroom structures, frisbee golf, water elements, and park history signage, among other features.

"This is one of the best things to happen to our city in a long time," Zephyrhills City Councilman Alan Knight said of the project during Monday's regular meeting.

Funding for the Hercules Park project is provided in this year's City budget, and has been requested in the 2022-2023 budget.

It is anticipated most of the remainder of this year will be spent on construction documents and permitting, followed by nine (9) months to a year on construction of the park site.

Stayed tuned for more updates on this exciting community-driven project.
