The City of Zephyrhills Fire Rescue is currently creating an eligibility list for a Firefighter / Paramedic.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must have a High School diploma or have a State issued G.E.D. Applicants must have a valid State of Florida Firefighter II Certification (minimum standards), current State of Florida Paramedic Certification, Florida Class “E” Driver’s License or higher, proof of current ACLS certification and a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Card. Applicants must have knowledge of principles, methods, practices, rules & regulations, procedures, operations of fire loss management, fire suppression and emergency medical services. Applicants must have the ability to communicate both orally and written.

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES:  Responds to fire and emergency rescue calls. Responsible for containing, suppressing and extinguishing fires (i.e., fire alarms, connecting fire hoses, directing water streams, raising and climbing ladder and performing salvage operations). Provides emergency medical services to rescue persons/potential victims in accordance with the knowledge and skills of a certified paramedic under the provisions of Chapter 401.F.S. and preserves property from danger. Completes other related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: The selected candidate will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing, and complete a physical exam before employment. Applicants must be nonusers of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one (1) year immediately preceding application for certification as a Firefighter, as evidenced by sworn affidavit and no tobacco use during employment. Tasks completed for this position involve regular and, at times, sustained physical exertion. The selected candidate must successfully complete Emergency Apparatus Driving Class within six (6) months of employment.

SELECTION PROCESS: There will be three (3) phases during the hiring process as follows:

     Phase I – Physical Abilities Test     Phase II – Written Examination     Phase III – Interview Process

Dates of testing will be announced after applications have been fully completed and reviewed by Human Resources and the Fire Administration.

NOTE: Applicants selected from this posting may be placed on an active eligibility list for 24 months.

The compensation package will start at the base salary range. The City of Zephyrhills has an excellent benefit package which includes medical, dental, life insurance and Florida Retirement System (FRS).
