Zephyrhills Airport Runway 4/22 Rehabilitation Project
The critical $4.1M Runway Rehabilitation Project of Runway 4-22 began on Feb 27 with recycling of existing materials, compaction, grading, testing and more of the same on the second recycling pass. First Phase Photos. The second phase added a mix of concrete and liquids to bind the final base product and was compacted to full strength in that second phase. Initial first lift asphalt paving operations began on Feb 11. The final product will yield a new stronger runway with up to 4 inches of asphalt and 7 inches of base materials. New LED lighting will be added throughout the project which will finish ahead of schedule and under budget. With FAA & FDOT cooperation all grant funds will be used in related airfield projects and no grant funds will be returned to the contributing agencies. The Runway will re-open as Runway 5-23 in April, with some short term limitations and additional periodic runway closures needed to complete final construction phases thru Labor Day.
