Congratulations to longtime City of Zephyrhills employee Rusty Guynn for being selected 2022 All-Pasco County Sunshine Athletic Conference Baseball Coach of the Year! Rusty led the Zephyrhills High School Bulldogs to a 12-6 mark and regional berth.

How does it feel to be named Sunshine Athletic Conference (SAC) Baseball Coach of the Year? “It means a lot, because it was voted on by the other coaches in the county, so it means a lot to be voted on by your peers; it’s a big deal.”

What was special about this year's Bulldogs team? “We had a group of three seniors that had been there for five years, even when they were in eighth grade, they started with me in the summers and stuff, so it was important for them to make it, and it was a good mixture of younger kids and older kids; it was a good group.”

What’s your general coaching philosophy? “It changes game to game, with teenagers. We just try to keep everything very simple and stay accountable for what we do.”

What do you enjoy about coaching baseball? “Being around and helping the kids try to get to a point to where they’re ready for life after high school. I also enjoy the competitiveness stuff of it, of always trying to win games.”

What is something people may not know about you? “I like to hunt deer. There’s a club I belong to up in north Florida.”
