The original 1927 Atlantic Coast Line Depot was purchased from CSX Railroad by the City of Zephyrhills in 1989 and relocated 200 feet west of its original location. Restoration of the 2,700 square foot building began in 1997 with a Grant from the State Department of Transportation, and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held November 19, 1997, to celebrate its completion. The Historical Preservation Committee and the Zephyrhills Historical Association assisted in many ways to bring this restoration to reality.
Opening on October 20, 1998, under the Library Department, the museum houses a full collection of memorabilia honoring the local community and emphasizing our rich history and connection to trains. Four exhibit areas include the Abbott Station Room, Community Room, Zephyrhills Alumni Room, and the Depot Room. Watch the model trains in action and take home a souvenir from the Zephyrhills Historical Association's Gift Shop. Tours may be arranged by calling the Library at 813-780-0064; special tour days and times may be considered for groups 15 or more.
